Blomquist Adds Voice to Women In Design Event

Ring & DuChateau Senior Lighting Designer Holly Blomquist presented her take on the theme “Together We Can” for the Women In Design: Milwaukee quarterly event April 20. She spoke about lighting design services she donated for Escuela Verde, a Milwaukee charter school for students in grades 7-12 designed to support students interested in sustainability, student-led learning and restorative justice.

“Escuela Verde was founded by a good friend of mine who has always been a very resourceful person,” Blomquist explained. “The project is unique in that the entire design and construction team came together to use a lot of materials which been procured by the school through nontraditional means (donation, auction, etc.) because of the school’s tight budget constraints.  The final product has an eclectic appearance, accessible and comfortable for students, while providing a high quality environment for learning.  I was happy to contribute what I could to their building project, and I thought it was an inspiring story to share with Women In Design.”

The ten speakers at the event, held at The Mobile Design Box in Milwaukee, delivered their presentations in Pecha Kucha style, each with 20 slides, 20 seconds per slide.

Women In Design: Milwaukee, an informal group of women in design-related fields, hosts quarterly events with different design-related themes and speakers. Events are generally free and open to the public.
