R&D’s Guberud Lauds Project Timeline, Participants for New Secura Insurance Headquarters

2019-11-21T16:40:56-06:00

In his YouTube video debut, Ring & DuChateau Partner and Senior Commissioning Provider Dave Guberud had the opportunity to explain the commissioning process and what it meant for the new Secura Insurance Corporate Headquarters in the Village of Fox Crossing.

“First off, commissioning is making sure a building, when it’s turned over, is actually meeting the owner’s intent,” Guberud explained about the process that tests the HVAC systems function of the building, including chillers, boilers, air handling units and ventilation systems. He noted that the timeline for this particular project was longer than he normally sees, which meant that contractors were able to take the time to do things right.

“With the time that the contractors have taken, and our processes of documentation, we are very confident that there will be virtually no issues at the turnover of this project,” Guberud concluded.

In addition to Ring & DuChateau, project partners for the facility include Eppstein Uhen Architects, Affiliated Engineers, CD Smith, Faith Technologies, August Winters and JF Ahern. The 300,000 square foot facility, the largest office building in the village, opened to workers in October. The video was created in three off-the-cuff takes and presented to the Secura Board of Directors as a construction update prior to the facility opening.

Crawford Joins Electrical Group

2019-07-31T15:32:57-05:00

Cole Crawford has joined Ring & DuChateau’s electrical group as a senior project engineer. Crawford, a graduate of Milwaukee School of Engineering, has more than 11 years of electrical design experience. He worked at firms in Phoenix and Chicago before his return to Wisconsin this year. He brings to R&D experience in design for healthcare, educational, corporate and municipal facilities. Among the most challenging of his career so far has been the renovation of the Chicago Old Main Post Office with his previous firm.

“It was a building that sat vacant for 10 years,” Crawford explained about the project’s challenges. “It’s also next to the railroad tracks and has Metra running below it. Plus it’s 2.5 million square feet. It was pretty complex.”

Crawford is currently working on several R&D healthcare projects, putting his skill for complex design to good use.
